Google Glass Enterprise Edition 2 passes FCC, could launch soon: Report

Google Glass Enterprise Edition 2 has recently shown up at the FCC, which means the device might get launched sooner than expected.

Google Glass Enterprise Edition 2 has recently shown up at the FCC, which means the device might get launched sooner than expected, according to MySmartPrice. While the filing doesn’t tell much about the device, other than the fact that it looks exactly the same as its predecessor and comes with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity.

The FCC documentation doesn’t reveal any specifications, but the headset is expected to be an improvement over the predecessor. MySmartPrice reports that Google Glass Enterprise 2 will offer slightly better specifications, an improved battery life, and a higher resolution camera module.

The original Google Glass was a revolutionary device at a time of its release in 2013.  Unfortunately, Google Glass failed to help consumers understand why they needed a smart glass. Last year, Google revived its failed Glass project by releasing a product for businesses. Called the Glass Enterprise Edition, the headset was designed for use in industries such as manufacturing and healthcare.

With the Glass Enterprise Edition 2, Google wants to revive its chances to get successful in the augmented reality (AR) headset space which is in its nascent stages. But Google isn’t alone working on a new pair of augmented reality headset. Huawei too is watching this space closely. In a recent interview with CNBC, Huawei’s Richard Yu has confirmed the company’s plans to launch augmented reality headset in a year or two. Not just Google and Huawei, Apple is also rumoured to be working on AR glasses. Rumour has it that Apple might launch the headset in either 2020 or 2021.
