NEW DELHI: A 53-year-old fashion designer and her assistant were brutally stabbed to death at her house in south Delhi’s Vasant Enclave, allegedly by her tailor and two of his work associates, on Wednesday night. Apparently consumed by guilt, the three alleged killers went to the police hours later to report the crime and surrender.
Stunned by the confessions, cops rushed to the designer’s house and found the bodies. The victim, Mala Lakhani, was unmarried and lived alone in the house which also had her workshop on the ground floor. Her assistant was identified as Bahadur.
Lakhani’s tailor, Rahul Anwar, 28, and his associates, Rehmat, 25, and Waseem, 23, were booked for murder and robbery. Anwar told the cops that they had been planning the murder for the past 15 days after a tiff with Lakhani over payment.
As per their confession, the trio planned to kill Lakhani and rob the house, believing she had cash stashed away there. The trio ransacked the house but could not find anything, so they took away 300 grams of gold and drove away in Lakhani’s Verna car.
