AHMEDABAD: Ajitsinh Gohil, a 29-year-old diamond worker from Khokhra in Bhavnagar, was arrested by the cyber cell of the city police on Thursday for harassing a married woman by sending her lewd messages and videos by creating a fake social media profile.

DCP, cyber cell, Rajdeepsinh Jhala, said a resident of Bapunagar had approached them a few days ago alleging that from a social media ID in the fake name of Nidhi Vivek Chudasama someone is constantly sending lewd messages and videos to his wife.

“During the probe, it was found that the complainant’s wife accepted the friend request thinking it was from a woman. However, she doubted the ID to be fake when she started receiving lewd messages and videos and narrated it to her husband,” added Jhala.

Inspector V B Barad said that based on the IP address they zeroed in on Gohil. “During interrogation Gohil, who works at a local diamond polishing unit said he had made the fake ID of a woman and chatted with women using it,” he said.

Cops have seized the cellphone from which the fake email id was made and are probing whether other women had been harassed by Gohil.
