An eagle-eyed reader has snapped photographs of Volkswagen’s recently revealed T-Cross SUV in South Africa. It made its world debut in late October in Amsterdam.

Tiaan Botha, who runs the Justcars.sa on Instagram page, touched base with us after he spotted the car in a parking lot in Melkbostrand in the Western Cape on Monday November 12.

The T-Cross is destined to arrive on local shores in the second quarter of 2019. The model being used for filming was sporting an R-Line kit and German number plates.

Word from Volkswagen SA is that the car is likely in Cape Town for filming for a TV ad by VW Germany.

The T-Cross is a Polo-sized crossover that will compete with the Ford Ecosport, Mazda CX-3 and Hyundai’s Creta among others in the competitive sub-compact SUV segment.

The crossover is based on the modular transverse matrix (MQB), it measures 4.11m in length and has a wheelbase of 2.56m.

In Europe, buyers can choose from four turbocharged engines: three petrol and one diesel. The two 1.0 TSI three-cylinder petrol engines producing 70kW or 85kW. The top model is the 1.5 TSI four-cylinder engine with 110kW. Completing the range is a 1.6 TDI four-cylinder engine with 70kW.

SA engines and specifications will be announced closer to its local launch date.
