A 16-year old girl was mowed down and seven others were injured after a speeding Fortuner car rammed several vehicles and then rammed the girl's two wheeler and dragged her for a few metres. The incident took place in Outer Delhi's Mir BAGH area on Wednesday night. The incident also caused a huge traffic jam as many vehicles were piled up on the road.
The driver of the car was identified as Dr Kamal Kumar Beharai, a resident of Bhera Enclave. Kamal is a retired professor from Hansraj College and was on his way home after a physiotherapy session. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) Seju P Kuruvilla confirmed the incident and stated that the car driver had lost control over the vehicle resulting in the accident.
"The Fortuner had hit a cycle, one scooty, one motor cycle, one Rickshaw and a mini bus before it came to a halt," said the DCP.
The deceased girl was identified as Seema. Her sister was also among the injured. A medical examination of the deceased would reveal if he was driving under the influence of alcohol.
Meanwhile, crowd gathered at the crime scene and one of them even informed the police. Some people were seen taking pictures and even posing at the accident site. A case under relevant sections was registered.
