New Delhi, Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday pitched for a gender-neutral India and said that Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP), in response to the #MeToo movement, has taken the issue of discrimination against women seriously and come up with necessary measures.

Speaking at the 19th International Conference of Chief Justices here, she said, “In the wake of #MeToo movement, Indian government formed a council of ministers to strengthen the existing laws for speedy trials against the perpetrator.”

She said, “That a fair society needs to have an equal work and public space for both men and women.”

“Only a country where a woman can walk freely during midnight can be called ‘safe’,” she added.
