GTech set to host carnival to raise funds
tnn | Nov 15, 2018, 23:48 ISTThiruvananthapuram: In a bid to raise funds to rebuild flood-battered Kerala, GTech, the apex body of technology companies in the state, will organize a charity carnival christened ‘Revival’.
Sports Hub, Kariavattom, will host the carnival from 4pm to 10.30pm on Saturday. The event, organized in association with Technopark, aims to mobilize Rs 1 crore.
Performance by musician Stephen Devassy and Solid band featuring playback singer Haricharan will be the highlight of the event.
A musical tribute will be organized in memory of the late Balabhaskar. Orfeo Quintet band, which shot to fame with instrumental version of old Malayalam film songs, will also perform.
Dance performance by Polestar and Aliyans are other attractions. Food festival, game and entertainment zones will be set up.
“Employees of IT parks in the state had been engaged in flood rescue and relief works. A team from GTech had visited the affected area to identify the needs post the floods. We kick-started rebuilding activities by setting up libraries in schools and repair/constructing houses in Kuttanad region. Now, we pin our hopes on the charity event to take forward the rehabilitation initiatives,” said Vishnu V Nair, secretariat head, GTech.
The proceeds from the event will be used for government-identified projects taken up by the collective. The organizers have cut down on the expenses on décor and management and all other arrangements are sponsored. Also, Sports Hub has allotted the venue free of cost. “It is unfair to wait for the government to do everything; we have the responsibility revive the state and this is a small contribution from our part,” said Ajay Padmanabhan, chief operating officer, Sports Hub.
One entry pass that admits one person costs Rs 499. For details, visit www.revival.natana.in
