Releasing a new poster of the film Petta, Sun Pictures indicated that the Rajinikanth starrer would be released on Pongal day in 2019. The poster, which features Rajinikanth and Simran, was shared widely on twitter. Simran tweeted out the poster as well while stating that she was extremely happy to be a part of the project.
Directed by Karthik Subbaraj, the film has an ensemble cast which includes Trisha, Vijay Sethupathi, Bobby Simha and M. Sasikumar. Petta’s release in January 2019 will be Rajinikanth’s third movie to release in eight months.
While Kaala released in June this year, director Shankar’s magnum opus 2.0 is scheduled to hit the screens on November 29.
Clash on the cards
Viswasam starring Ajith is also scheduled for a release around Pongal and is expected to clash with Rajini’s Petta at the box office.
Vijay will be working with director Atlee for his 63rd film. The film will mark his third collaboration with the director after their previous outings, Theri and Mersal.
In an official statement, AGS entertainment announced the project, which will have music by A.R. Rahman, and said that this would be their 20th production as well as their biggest production till date. The movie would be released during Deepavali.
“#Thalapathy63 promises to be a ‘pukka’ mass family entertainer with a large cast, superior technical crew and the best of production values,” the statement from Kalpathi S. Aghoram, read. He will be producing the movie with Kalpathi S. Ganesh and Kalpathi S. Suresh.
