HYDERABAD: It will be David versus Goliath in the Huzurnagar assembly constituency. TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao has pitted a rookie against a seasoned politician. An NRI Shanampudi Saidi Reddy will be the TRS candidate against TPCC president Uttam Kumar Reddy, a probable chief minister candidate if Congress comes to power.
After considering names of few others who were also in the fray for the Huzurnagar seat, KCR chose a fresher, who had been doing ground work in the constituency for some time. The TRS leadership, however, has kept on hold the announcement of the candidate for Kodad, from where Uttam Kumar’s wife Padmavathi is in fray. The candidate for Musheerabad constituency has also not been announced.
KCR also made up his mind on the Khairtabad seat, which had many contenders. Former minister and Congress leader Danam Nagendar who quit Congress to join TRS, has been given the party ticket. Nagendar had held the seat in the past. However, there were many vying for the ticket. Malkajgiri Lok Sabha member Ch Malla Reddy who was keen to contest from Medchal assembly seat has been obliged by KCR. In fact, he had been campaigning for himself for last two months even before the formal announcement about his candidature came today.
Warangal East candidate will be Nannapaneni Narendar. KCR dropped sitting legislator Konda Surekha to give the seat to Narendar. As the party leader had kept the announcement on hold, Surekha had raised a banner of revolt and said if she was not given the seat she would not hesitate to contest as an independent.
Prem Singh Rathod will take on BJP candidate Raja Singh in Goshamahal.
Though MIM and TRS declared themselves to be friendly parties, TRS fielded Mohammed Salauddin Lodhi from Charminar seat. The fielding of a candidate by TRS can be considered strategic so that the required chunk of votes for the MIM candidate will be retained.
Dr Methuku Anand will contest from Vikarabad and Kaleru Venkatesh has been fielded from Amberpet assembly constituency. BJP’s G Kishan Reddy is the sitting legislator here and is contesting again. Mynampally Hanumantha Rao has been given the Malkajgiri seat. Announcement on the Choppadandi seat was kept on hold, but the sitting legislator Bodiga Shobha of TRS was hopeful of being renominated.
