Nagpur: A 13-year-old girl was allegedly raped for more than a year by a 27-year-old married man on the pretext of fake marriage promises, at Khapa. The survivor and her father approached Khapa police station after the accused threatened her of dire consequences.

Police have registered a case of rape against the accused, identified as Chandrashekhar alias Arun Jangde, under sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC), Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act and Atrocity Act.

According to the cops, Jangde, who lives in the vicinity, used to follow the survivor whenever she went to school. The Std XI student earlier tried to stay away from the accused, but he threatened her of dire consequences. The accused also lured the minor by promising to marry her and divorce his wife.

For around one year, the accused exploited the survivor several times, until she stopped seeing him. Thereafter, Jangde, a father of two, threatened the survivor’s father. The father-daughter duo finally approached Khapa police and lodged a complaint.

Police arrested Jangde and produced him before the court on Thursday. He has been sent to magisterial custody.
