Children’s Day was celebrated across the city with much fanfare on Wednesday. Several schools organised cultural programmes and festivities on the occasion.

City-based Nehru Zoological Park celebrated it by organising cultural programmes by 250 mentally-challenged students from PAWMENCAP, Asifnagar, with the theme being ‘wildlife conservation’.

The statue of Mr. Nehru was garlanded by Assistant Conservator Syed Maqsood Mohiuddin, and his contribution to the freedom struggle was remembered. “The park is named after Nehru and regarded as one of the best zoos in the country,” he said. Akshaya Patra Foundation, which partners with the government in midday meal programme in schools, celebrated the day by having a special show with children at a radio channel, followed by an outing to the Birla Science Museum and Birla Mandir.

Shilparamam organised classical music and dance programmes by children below 11 years of age.
