THANE: The anti-human trafficking cell busted a prostitution racket and arrested one person Kapurbawdi on Wednesday. The sleuths rescued three women.
According to the police, Daya and Vinay Singh were running the racket. They used to carry out the racket over the phone and pushed young women into it by luring them with loads of money.
“We had received a tip-off that two pimps—Singh and Daya— used to carry out the illegal business. We then laid a trap and managed to arrest the accused. The other accused managed to escape from the scene. We also rescued the three women who are in the age group of 18-22 years,” said Ravindra Daundkar, senior inspector at anti-human trafficking cell.
The officials stated that there was no place to meet the accused. They used to meet their clients at different spots.
“The trio who were rescued were in dire need of money and so got into prostitution. While we are tracing Daya, we are checking if Singh is a repeat offender. He has been granted police custody till Wednesday and we will be checking if there were any more girls who were involved in the racket,” added Daundkar.
