Marathi movie Gat Mat, which is produced by Rajendraprasad Srivastava and directed by Nishith Srivastava, will be releasing on November 16. Based on the present day relationship format, Gat Mat is music director Avdhoot Gupte’s presentation in association with Yashraj Industries. The movie will star Rasika Sunil, Nikhil Wairagar, Akshay Tanksale and Purnima Dey. Coming from a rural background Nikhil could closely connect to the character. His character is of a young boy from a village who gets admission in one of the most famous colleges in Pune, filled with rich kids. “Coming from a rural background myself, I am familiar with the kind of inferiority complex a village boy carries when he comes to a big city. It becomes really difficult for a boy to approach a girl face to face, so in order to set them up and let a romantic bond blossom between them, Gat Mat came into existence,” says Nikhil who plays the character of Bagalya, one of the lead characters of the movie.

Talking about the title, Nikhil was inspired by a real life incident from his college days and that’s what made him write this story and build these characters. “A friend of mine called me, saying one of our common friends who he had set up in college, got married to the same girl recently. This incident struck me while I was travelling and made me think over the idea and that is how I came up with this story of Gat Mat,” explains Nikhil.

Rasika Sunil, who is one of the female leads of the movie, is a well known face in the Marathi television industry. She has played the character of a gold digger in the Marathi daily soap Mazhya Navryachi Bayko on Zee Marathi. Her character in the movie is completely opposite to what she has played in the serial. She plays a strong girl who constantly supports her college mates. “I have been working on television for quite sometime now, and the experience of working in a movie was really refreshing, since TV serials get mundane after a point of time,” says Rasika. Talking about her character in the movie, she explains, “ Even though my character is of a rich kid and the daughter of the college principal, I am still approachable and easy going. I am like a support system for Bagalya and Rangya who are new and lost in the high-end urban setting.”

Akshay Tanksale plays a very interesting character of a village boy named Rangya. Rangya is a shy boy but at the same time he is extremely street smart. So in order to curb the gap between the urban and rural setting, Rangya comes up with a very interesting idea. “Despite being an introvert, Rangya is extremely street smart. In order to match with the urban crowd, he comes up with idea of getting the boys and girls together through Gat mat. Being a villager and an introvert, it becomes very difficult to approach and mingle for him. This movie follows their journey of unlimited fun and entertainment,” says Akshay.
