Diabetes is a chronic disease which is largely affected by the patient’s lifestyle and eating pattern. While it cannot be cured completely, diabetes can be curbed to a large extent with the help of proper medical assistance, diet and regular exercise. Often diabetics are advised to have small and frequent meals to ensure that the blood sugar level is under control.

As the world observes World Diabetes Day 2018 on November 14, we have listed down some of the most important foods that a person suffering from diabetes should include in their diet.

Cottage cheese or paneer

Cottage cheese provides about 12 grams of protein and has a good amount of calcium as well. You can have it uncooked or add some sesame seeds to it for a nutty flavour or make a quick sandwich to get your daily dose of protein.

Quinoa

Quinoa, that is rich in protein, fibre, vitamins and minerals helps in managing blood sugar. Other health benefits include weight loss, protection from heart diseases, reduction in the risk of atherosclerosis and coronary health diseases.

Egg whites 

Eggs contain approximately six grams of protein and zero carbs making it a nutritional snack. If you are not too keen to have egg whites, you can eat an whole boiled egg.

Almonds 

Eating a moderate amount of almonds everyday is advisable for good health.

Chia Seeds 

Chia seeds is a superfood which works pretty well for diabetics. It may help you maintain weight because it reduces hunger and makes you feel full.
