Vadodara: The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) that has already been declared as an open defecation free (ODF) city under the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) is now eyeing to improve its standards and comply with the latest ODF+ norms of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs of the union government.

While making a city ODF focussed on ensuring that people had sufficient toilets at their residences or community toilets in their localities, ODF+ will also focus on the fact that all mobile population including commuters and visitors to the city have facilities to relieve themselves. The views and opinions of the residents of the city will also be considered.

Working on an ODF+ city becomes vital in wake of the fact that the Swachh Survekshan 2019 will have 250 marks. If the city wants to fare well in the survey, it will have to ensure that public toilets are in place apart from personal and community toilets. A series of criteria have also been set for public toilets in the city.

Sources in the civic body said that the process of documentation and taking declarations from people in various walks of life is underway. A third party inspection will be conducted after the civic body applies for an ODF+ status. The administration has also sought a nod from the elected wing to proceed with steps necessary for declaring the city ODF+.
