31-year-old engineer says he killed his father because he asked for sexual favours

The Koparkhairane police arrested a 31-year-old man on Tuesday for allegedly killing his 62-year-old father at their house on Monday.

The police said that the accused, Nikhil Dahotre, admitted to his crime on Tuesday and revealed that he killed his father because he asked for sexual favours. In a press release, the Koparkhairane police said that Mr. Dahotre felt that his father constantly sought sexual favours from him. Mr. Dahotre has also claimed that he wanted his father’s property and killed him by smashing his head with a pressure cooker, hammer and a stone grinder.

Shivaji Awate, senior police inspector from Koparkhairane police station, said, “During the investigation, he initially claimed that two unidentified men had attacked them at their residence. We checked the entry register of the housing society and the CCTV footage, but found no evidence to corroborate the claims. We also found that Mr. Dahotre had only sustained minor injuries on his fingers. After he was discharged from Vashi NMMC hospital, we confronted him with the evidence and he confessed to the crime.”

Police verifying claims

Meanwhile, Mr. Dahotre’s family members claimed that he suffered from schizophrenia. However, police officials claim that they have not found any evidence to confirm it. Mr. Awate said, “We have learnt from the housing society members that the accused used to turn violent and frequently fought with his father. We also learnt from his relatives that he had been demanding his father’s property for a long time now. We have not found any evidence or documents to prove that he is mentally ill.”

The police have sent Mr. Dahotre’s blood-stained clothes, the murder weapons and other items collected from the crime scene for forensic examination. Mr. Dahotre, who is mechanical engineer, has been unemployed for the past two years. The police found Vijay Kumar Dahore, a retired auditor with the Central government, dead in the kitchen if their sixth-floor residence in New Krishna Tower CHS at Sector 14 in Koparkhairane on Monday.

Mr. Dahotre was arrested under Sections 302 (murder) and 324 (voluntarily causing hurt with dangerous weapon) of the IPC and has been remanded in police custody till November 16.
