Havells India to launch 8 new models

Home appliances maker Havells India Ltd has lined up eight new fan models for the coming summer, including an IoT-based, WiFi-enabled ceiling fan that will adjust its speed based on the temperature and humidity in a room.

The ‘smart’ fan, to be launched in two versions, can be controlled with a remote or through a mobile app. It would be compatible with ‘Alexa’ and ‘Google Home’ digital assistants.

One of the versions would also come with a digital display of the temperature and humidity levels. Featuring a retro-fit module, the base version would be introduced in Havells’ highest selling decorative model and named ‘Enticer Smart’. The company also intends to market the retro-fitment equipment separately to turn any old ceiling fan ‘smart’, Havells India president Saurabh Goel said at a media interaction here on Wednesday.

Showcasing the new models, including a pedestal fan with changing lights, he said they would be launched in January, well ahead of the summer sale that picks up from February. The price points of the new models were being worked out by the company, he replied to queries, indicating that the ‘smart’ fan would cost over ₹5,000 apiece, while the retro-fit kit could be more than ₹1,000 each.

The eight models come with improved aesthetics, including one with low noise operation and another equipped with lights.

To queries, Mr. Goel said the electrical consumer durable business contributed to around 22% of the Havells India total turnover of ₹6,135 crore last fiscal. Besides fans, the ECD business product portfolio include water heater, domestic appliances, air coolers and water pumps.

The domestic fan industry is estimated to be around ₹7,000 crore, of which the share of ceiling fans is 75%. Havells concentrates on the premium segment – fans that cost upwards of ₹2,500 – where the growth is faster.
