The breadth of the market favoured the advances with 879 stocks advancing and 770 declining while 406 remained unchanged. On the BSE, 1234 stocks advanced, 1069 declined and 135 remained unchanged.
The Indian stock market is trading in the green in this afternoon session with the Nifty50 up 44 points, trading at 10,625 while the Sensex gained 129 points at 35,273.
Bank Nifty has added a percent led by Bank of Baroda, ICICI Bank, IndusInd Bank, Punjab National Bank, State Bank of India and YES Bank.
Oil & gas stocks are also up with gains from BPCL, HPCL and Indian Oil Corporation which added 7-9 percent. ONGC added 1 percent while Reliance Industries has turned into the green.
From the FMCG space, the top gainers included Hindustan Unilever, Godrej Consumer, Dabur India, Jubilant Food, Marico and United Spirits.
Media stocks are also buzzing led by Zee Entertainment, Sun TV Network, PVR and Network18.
However, Nifty IT was down over 2.5 percent dragged by HCL Tech, Infosys, TCS, Tech Mahindra and Oracle Financial Services.
From the BSE midcap space, the top gainers were Adani Transmission and AU Small Finance Bank while the top losers were Glenmark Pharma, JSPL and Mphasis.
From the BSE smallcap space, the top gainers were Newgen Software Tech which jumped 15 percent followed by Tata Investment and Universal Cables while the losers included Balasore Alloys and MIRC Electronics.
The top gainers from NSE include HPCL, BPCL, IOC, HUL and Bharti Airtel.
The top losers included Sun Pharma, HCL Tech, Tech Mahindra, GAIL India and TCS.
The most active stocks are Tata Steel, SBI, HDFC Bank, Ashok Leyland and Sun Pharma.
ICICI Bank, Gujarat Fluorochemicals and SMS Lifesciences are some of the few stocks which hit new 52-week high on the NSE.
ABG Shipyard, Sun Pharma Advanced Research Company, CG Power and Industrial Solutions and Sumeet Industries are some of the some which have hit new 52-week low on the NSE.
