Cop booked as man dies in accident
TNN | Nov 14, 2018, 07:40 ISTJalandhar: A day after his team received a commendation certificae from the Jalandhar commissioner of police, a Punjab Police head constable was booked on Tuesday for a fatal, late-night accident on Ladhowali Road here .
Head constable Amit Kumar was on the wheel of an SUV when it hit a rickshaw and killed a man riding it, Bihar native Joginder Thakur (55). According to information, the accused cop and his co-passenger fled from the crime scene after the accident, and left their car behind.
As police were informed about the accident by a passer-by, a PCR team rushed Thakur to the civil hospital here.
Joginder was returning to his home in Bashirpura. He was with a friend who owned the rickshaw when the SUV ploughed into it.
Following a complaint by the victim’s family, police have registered a case under sections 304A (causing death by negligence), 427 (mischief causing damage) and 289 (negligent conduct with respect to animal) of the Indian Penal Code. He is yet to be arrested.
