Auto driver held with stolen phones

LUDHIANA: The police have arrested an autorickshaw driver for stealing mobile phones from passengers during late night hours. cops recovered four expensive smartphones from his possession. Investigating officer Davinder Pal Singh said that working on tip off, police arrested the Rohit Kumar who used to rob passengers travelling in his auto in the night. The accused is responsible for committing several thefts in the city. A case under Section 411 and 379 of the IPC has been registered against Rohit.
24 cartons of illicit liquor seized
Ludhiana: The Tibba Road police have booked an unidentified person for smuggling illicit liquor into the city on Monday. Investigating officer Gurpreet Singh said a high-tech check post was established at Gopal Nagar on Monday evening. As the suspect arrived near the naka carrying a heavy bag on his vehicle, he saw the cops. He quickly left his bag there and fled from the spot. The cops recovered 24 cartons of illicit liquor from the bag. Following this, a case under relevant sections of the Excise Act was registered against the man.
One booked in hit-&-run case
Ludhiana: The police have booked an unidentified person for negligent driving and killing a local resident on Monday evening. Police said a passerby filed a complaint following which a case was registered against the unknown driver. The 40-year-old deceased was a city resident and was killed near Malhotra Palace.
