A man from West Bengal was arrested for allegedly possessing ganja worth Rs 24,000 in Calangute village, 10 kms away from here, police said on Wednesday.
The accused identified as Saddam Hussain Molla, who hails from Dakshin Dinajpur in West Bengal, was arrested following a raid conducted at Calangute market on Tuesday night, a police officer said.
"Police had received a tip-off that the man was coming to the market with some drugs to give it to the prospective customers," Inspector of Calangute police station Jivba Dalvi said.
"Accordingly, a team was set up and the police waited at Calangute market in civil clothes. As soon as the man arrived at the spot, police took him into custody," he added.
During his search, the accused was found possessing ganja worth Rs 24,000 in the international market, he said.
"The accused was brought to the police station and placed under arrest," he said.
He was booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, police said adding that further investigation was on.
