A fine of Rs 5,000 will be imposed if a person is found using pumps or motors for direct connection of water supply.
Both residential and commercial building owners will have to pay 30 per cent sewerage cess on the water consumption amount, apart from various fines for any violation committed, as per a draft notification of the amendments in Chandigarh Water-supply Bylaws prepared by the Union Territory administration.
”The draft notification is ready and it will be issued by Monday,” a senior official of the administration says.
A fine of Rs 5,000 will be imposed in case a person is found using pumps or motors for direct connection of water supply. If the person is found using it for second time, other than a fine of Rs 10,000, the water supply will be disconnected.
Also for vehicle service stations, a penalty of Rs 2 lakh will be imposed first time and thereafter Rs 5,000 per day if they fail to install shallow tube wells within three months of the issuance of this notification.
It has been stated that all the premises where tube wells have been sanctioned for potable water shall have to get the samples tested for chemicals and bacteria at least once a month from the water works at Sector 39, Chandigarh.
It has been further stated in the draft that in case any leakage is observed, a notice shall be served to the consumer asking him or her to get it rectified within a period of two days. In case of non-compliance, the amount of repair incurred, along with a fine of Rs 100, will be recovered in the ensuing water bill.
The cost of replacement of the damaged and leaking pipes shall be charged as Rs 2,000 (including cost of material and labour) if the municipal line is on road berm, adjoining the concerned house, and Rs 6,000 if it is across the road.
As far as sewer connection charges are concerned, up to 10 marla houses will have to pay an amount of Rs 2,000, houses above 10 marla and up to one kanal, Rs 4,000, and those above one kanal will have to shell out Rs 6,000. Industrial construction up to one kanal will have to shell out Rs 10,000 and those above will have to pay Rs 20,000. Hotels, commercial institutions and other commercial premises will have to pay Rs 20,000 for the sewer connection.
