5 nominated heads quit posts to contest Assembly polls

Nominated heads of five corporations/boards have tendered resignation to their posts to contest the Assembly elections as Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) candidates. All the posts are of Cabinet rank and their resignation is necessary to contest elections.

Resignations accepted

While Vice-Chairman of Telangana State Planning Board Singireddy Niranjan Reddy tendered his resignation last week, four others have put in their papers on Monday and Tuesday. Resignation of all the five nominated heads have been accepted by the government.

Mr. Niranjan Reddy is contesting the election from Wanaparthy Assembly constituency in Wanaparthy district and Peddi Sudarshan Reddy, who held the post of Chairman of Telangana State Civil Supplies Corporation, is in the fray from Narsampet in Warangal (Rural) district. Similarly, Thati Venkateshwarulu, who has been Chairman of Telangana Scheduled Tribes Co-Operative Finance Corporation Limited, is seeking re-election from Aswaraopet constituency in Bhadradri-Kothagudem district. He is the only nominated head among the five to have represented the dissolved Assembly.

Mir Inayath Ali Baqri, who held the post of Chairman of SETWIN till last week, is contesting from Malakpet constituency and Prem Singh Rathore, who has been Chairman of Musi Riverfront Development Corporation, is expected to contest from Goshamahal constituency in the city.

The GO issued on the acceptance of Mr. Sudarshan Reddy’s resignation, however, quotes his resignation letter stating that he is contesting in the ensuing Assembly elections and would like to tender his resignation to “uphold high moral values in public life”.
