Twitter user Rocky Mohamadali has claimed that his Apple iPhone X unit exploded while upgrading to iOS 12.1 version. In a tweet, the user has claimed that his iPhone X just got hot and exploded in the process of upgrading to 12.1 OS. He also posted pictures of the phone after the incident, which reportedly took place in the city of Federal Way, Washington in the US.
Meanwhile, Apple Support has replied to Mohamadali to look into the incident. “That’s definitely not expected behavior. DM us, so we can look into this with you,” reads Apple’s tweet.

According to Gadgets 360, who reached out to the user, he claimed that he had plugged in his 10-month old iPhone X for charging while it was updating to iOS 21.1. However, the phone apparently started emitting a dark grey smoke after it turned on post completion of the update. The user claims that the smoke was followed by a fire.

Mohamadali was further quoted as saying that he used the official Apple Lightning cable as well as wall adapter that came bundled with his phone for charging it. His Apple iPhone X was apparently not plugged in to the charger when the incident occurred.
Apple iPhone X is the company’s tenth-anniversary edition phone that was launched last year in September. So far, no incidents of iPhone X exploding have come to light. Apple has reportedly asked the user to ship his affected iPhone X unit to them for investigation.
