Accused brutally assaulted him on Thaivilakom beach

The Valiathura police on Tuesday recorded the arrest of five persons in connection with the death of a fisherman at Kochuveli.

Those arrested were identified as Jijo, 29, and Sujith, alias Achu, 25, of Kochuveli; John Paul, 24, of Valiyaveli; and Shanu Miranda, alias Chillu, 27, and Peter Shano, 33, of Kannanthura.

The five youths were arrested by the police on the charge of murdering 56-year-old Heriboy, alias Kurisappan, of Thaivilakom late Sunday.

Unruly behaviour

According to Valiathura Station House Officer S. Bijoy, Heriboy had apparently objected to the youths’ unruly behaviour a few days ago.

He chided them for habitually creating a commotion outside his house under the influence of alcohol.

He also entered into an argument with the mother of prime accused Jijo over the issue.

The accused later forcibly took the victim to the Thaivilakom beach and brutally assaulted him until he fell unconscious.

Body found

Heriboy was later dragged back to his house.

The gang members abandoned him there.

His body was found by neighbours the next day.

Two more

The police said they were on the lookout for two more accused in the case, Jinu and Sumith.
