Jawaharlal Nehru came to be known as Chacha Nehru, a favourite uncle to children across India.

ON JAWAHARLAL Nehru’s 129th birth anniversary, senior Congress politician Karan Singh did not dwell on a request asking him to speak on attempts made to take over the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library, dismissing it by saying that things that are condemnable don’t need to be condemned. Singh was at the NMML auditorium along with Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Manmohan Singh, Hamid Ansari, Jairam Ramesh and Sheila Dikshit for a performance by musicians from Rajasthan. NMML Director Shakti Sinha, who was extended an invitation by the Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Fund, did not attend the event. While a book on Anand Bhawan was released by Gandhi, a website showcasing Selected Works of Nehru was launched by Ansari.

BEING INVESTIGATED for misconduct in the Rs 50-crore Railway Claims Tribunal scam, tribunal judge R K Mittal is going to be suspended. But there is a problem. The tribunal is unable to serve him the notice of suspension for the past few weeks as, officials said, Mittal is not traceable. He is not responding to calls and messages and not in his house. And only a few times has he sent what officials decribed as cryptic messages saying he was unwell.

THE Human Resource Development Ministry on Monday announced the process of reconstituting the IIM Boards and set December 15 as the deadline for all the institutes to complete the process. It turns out that the deadline may be a little too ambitious. IIM Chairmen are normally big industrialists and it usually takes time for institutes to fix a suitable date for Board meeting as they have busy schedules. IIM directors suspect it will be difficult to call a meeting at such short notice.
