The police on Tuesday arrested a youth who attempted to rob a woman in her house at Muthulingampet in Lawspet. According to police, the accused identified as Abdul Imath, 22, of Koonimedu near Marakkanam along with two others entered the house of Murugan alias Krishnan, 49, of Muthulingampet under the pretext of giving an invitation.
As soon as Mr. Krishnan’s wife Indira, 45, opened the door, they threatened her to part with her jewellery. When she cried for help, one of the robbers tried to gag her. On hearing Indira’s screams a few neighbours rushed to her rescue. Two of them managed to flee while the public nabbed Abdul Imath. He was arrested and remanded in custody. A search is on to nab others.
