Be a guardian on the road with Gulf Oil

Let’s face the truth. Indian roads aren’t safe and commuters are constantly flouting the rules which has led to the statistic of India being one of the most dangerous countries to ride or drive in. To make Indian roads safer, the need of the hour is education and it has to start early. While each of us can do our part, it is a great sign when corporates step up to the plate and start an initiative in this regard. Gulf Oil has been raising the issue and spreading the awareness around road safety for the last couple years and each campaign has had a lasting effect. Stepping up their game on this front, Gulf Oil has come out with a rather unique idea targeted at the pillion rider – especially kids.

As the law now states that the pillion rider needs to have a helmet as well, parents often forget that they need to purchase a small-sized helmet for their kids. Considering how many parents ferry their kids to school or around the neighbourhood on a two-wheeler, this is a major safety issue that is often overlooked.

The new campaign targets this young audience in a creative manner and it also gets the message across to the parents as well. After all, today’s kids are tomorrow’s riders and drivers and by getting them to learn the value of being safe on the road at an early age is probably the only way to address this issue and help curtail the problem.

To educate the parents and make them take a step in the right direction on this front, Gulf Oil has initiated the ‘Gulf Guardian on Road’ campaign which is essentially a pledge that parents sign to be a guardian on the road to their kids by getting them the right protective gear while commuting on a two wheeler. As part of the campaign, Gulf Oil will be distributing 15,000 kid-size helmets across six markets, namely Mumbai, Coimbatore, Ranchi, Baroda, Dehradun and Lucknow to all those parents who come forward and take the pledge. Gulf Oil has tied up with various media partners and influencers to help drive the campaign forward and they even have kiosks where parents can sign up and take the pledge to better protect their kids.

As for the kids, they get a very cool looking helmet finished in the iconic Gulf Oil colours. The reaction to getting a helmet in their size is priceless and the excitement levels are worth experiencing! I got to do that first-hand when I signed up and got helmets for my nephews. Now, I’ve got their friends hounding me for helmets and a few parents have approached me too! I told them to log on to www.gulfoilindia.com and sign the pledge! Clearly, the kids love the idea of having a lid of their own and this is exactly what this campaign aims to achieve. That feeling of pride should never die and the excitement of getting a helmet should always remain as euphoric as the first one.

If you are a parent and believe in making our roads safer and protecting your children, I too urge you to sign up and be a #GuardianOnRoad with Gulf Oil. Set the right example, get them that helmet and let’s all work towards making our roads safer.
