Drunk cabbie driving without front tyre rams vehicles, creates panic

BENGALURU: A cabbie on Tuesday unleashed mayhem on the roads of Laggere and Sumanahalli, overspeeding and brushing past several vehicles. The man was allegedly in an inebriated condition and he did not even realise that the front tyre had got ripped off and the vehicle was being driven on the drum.
The white-coloured sedan was spotted moving at a high speed around 10.15pm, endangering the lives of pedestrians and fellow motorists. A few bike riders tried to stop the driver, but in vain. The situation spiralled out of control when the car brushed past some vehicles parked by the roadside. Noticing this, a couple in a car tried to chase and intercept the cab. The woman in the car recorded the entire episode on her cellphone. TOI has sourced the three-minute video recording of the chase. Every time the car tried to get close, the cab moved past, unmindful of the street corners or speed breakers. Though sparks and smoke were emitting from its front wheel, the cabbie did not decelerate. After a 4km-long chase, the couple and other motorists managed to stop the cab. They pulled the driver out of the vehicle and thrashed him.
Soon, Kamakshipalya traffic police arrived at the spot and took the driver — Lokesh from Hassan — into custody. “He was drunk and not in a position to answer our questions. We’ll grill him later,” police said. He has been booked for drunk driving. “We’re yet to receive complaints from owners of the vehicles which were damaged,” they added.
