GURUGRAM: A day after the mutilated body of a three-year-old girl was found lying in a room used for storing cattle fodder near a slum cluster in the city, police formed a special investigation team (SIT) and announced a reward of Rs 2 lakh for sharing information about the prime suspect, Sunil (20), a worker who came to the city recently in search of a job.
Investigators on Tuesday told TOI that Sunil was caught on a CCTV camera installed in a residential colony. In the footage, he was seen going towards a road near the colony along with the child, and then proceeding towards the store room where the body was found.
Police said they recorded the statements of neighbours and detained family members of the suspect, who were staying in the same slum cluster along with his sisters. “We are interrogating Sunil’s family, but so far he could not be tracked,” said a senior police officer, adding that the suspect had not using a phone.
Four teams have been formed by the Gurugram police, and they are conducting raids in Delhi, Faridabad and Gurugram. “The investigation is in progress, and we are trying to nab the suspect at the earliest,” said police spokesperson Subhash Bokan.
Gharelu Kamgar Union on Tuesday lashed out at the police for failing to file a missing person’s report on November 11 when the girl’s parents approached them. “They were misdirected by the local police who claimed that Sector 65 area did not fall under their jurisdiction,” said Maya John, convener, Gharelu Kamgar Union.
