201 candidates in fray for Nov 28 Mizoram Assembly election

A total of 201 candidates are in the fray for the Assembly election after three nominees opted out of the contest on Wednesday, the last date for withdrawal of nomination papers, department officials said.

During scrutiny, all of the nomination papers were found to be valid. Three nominees withdrew their candidature Wednesday, they said.

Those who withdrew nominations were Lalenkima Khiangte of People's Representation to Identity and Status of (PRISM) and Lallawmzuala Sailo of 'Zoramthar' who filed their papers from Aizawl East - II and N respectively.

Lalmama, an in southern Mizoram's Lawngtlai West seat also withdrew his nomination.

Election to the 40-member Assembly would be held on November 28.

The (NPP) state unit convener Lianzuala is contesting from Dampa and Mamit seats while Nationalist Congress Party's (NCP) Mizoram also filed his papers from Dampa and Mamit seats.

A newly formed 'Zoramthar' Rev Zaichhawna Hlawndo is contesting from Serchhip and Aizawl West - I seats. Hlawndo's two UK-educated daughters Lalruatfeli and are also contesting from two seats each.

While Lalruatfeli Hlawndo would contest from Aizawl West - I and Tuikum seats, her younger sister has filed her nominations for Aizawl North - II and Lengteng seats as Zoramthar candidates.
