In a rebuttal to the Dassault Aviation CEO Eric Trappier’s defence of Rafale deal, the Congress Tuesday said “dictated interviews” and “manufactured lies” cannot suppress the alleged scam in the multi-million dollar fighter plane deal.

Taking to Twitter, Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala said, “‘Dictated Interviews’ and ‘manufactured lies’ cannot suppress the Rafale Scam. First rule of Law – Mutual Beneficiaries and Co-accused’s statements hold no value. Second Rule:-Beneficiaries and accused can’t be Judge in their own case. Truth has a way of coming out.”

“Fixed match between BJP Government and Dassault and PR Stunts of PM Modi and Eric Trappier can’t hide the blatant corruption,” he alleged, adding that the nation needs a “fair investigation” and not “doctored explanations” on the fighter jet deal.

In an exclusive interview with ANI on Tuesday, Trappier said that his company had chosen Reliance as an offset partner, and denied allegations of corruption in the Rafale jet deal with India saying it was a “clean deal”. He added that the price in the contract for 36 aircraft was brought down by 9 per cent after government-to-government negotiations.

On allegations of corruption in the Rafale deal, Trappier said, “I don’t lie. The truth I declared before and the statements I made are true. I don’t have a reputation of lying. In my position as CEO, you don’t lie.”

Meanwhile, Congress president Rahul Gandhi Tuesday reiterated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi snatched contract from HAL and gave it to Reliance’s Anil Ambani. “PM Modi went to France with Anil Ambani, snatched Rafale contract from HAL, gave it to him,” PTI quoted Gandhi as saying while addressing a rally in poll-bound Chhattisgarh.
