Robin Wright plays Claire Underwood in House of Cards
At the recently held Netflix event in Singapore, See What’s Next Asia, actor Robin Wright, who plays Claire Underwood on House of Cards, spoke about her character and the show that began the new era of TV-viewing.
Talking about the experience of working on the show, Robin said, “I feel proud that we accomplished our goal, which was to make the most conniving, maneuvering, scheming couple we could in politics. And that we were able to finish the show off as we intended.”
“I am excited to hear what everybody thinks because the last season is very different. Being a part of the show that revolutionized the way we consume television, it has changed the way TV is looked upon,” Robin added.

Elaborating on the time she was first approached to play the character of Claire by acclaimed filmmaker David Fincher, Robin said, “I remember when David Fincher proposed the idea to me, he said, ‘Do you want to do a television show?’ And I said no. Because I just wanted to be in films, because films and TV were two separate entities in 2013. He (David) basically educated me to say ‘Yes, we can,’ seeing how it could be a new movement. He said, ‘Don’t you want to be a part of a revolution in this industry which you have been a part of for most of your life?'”
Talking about working with the Netflix team and directing the finale of the show, Robin said, “It is a family that you form. It is a six-year-long movie. So to be able to be given an opportunity to direct and to learn how to direct was an incredible experience.”
When asked whether House of Cards reflects the reality of American politics in any manner, the actor said, “It’s the art of war, which is how politics works in every country, a very corrupt reality that goes on in politics. And yes, it’s Machiavellian and yes it is dramatic, but there’s a hint of reality too, which is frightening.”
Talking about what she will miss about her character and the show, Robin laughed and said, “I will miss her clothes and her shoes.”
House of Cards Season 6 is currently streaming on Netflix.
