A 33-YEAR-OLD man was allegedly killed by his four brothers-in-law at Vakola in Santacruz East while he was having an argument with his wife.

Three of the accused have been arrested. Police said the incident took place on Monday evening when Shridhar Yelumalai, a ragpicker, had gone to the house of his wife’s parents at Mother Teresa chawl in Vakola to bring her home.

“The couple had been fighting and as a result, Yelumalai’s wife left their home with their son to go live with her parents three months ago. Both families stayed in the same locality,” said an officer at Vakola police station.

“When he reached his in-laws house on Monday, Yelumalai was initially stopped by his wife’s parents and brothers from meeting her. When they finally met, the wife refused return home. While the couple was arguing, the wife’s brothers began to attack Yelumalai,” the officer added.

The men allegedly assaulted Yelumalai with iron rods and stabbed him in the stomach with a knife before fleeing, the police said.

By the time Yelumalai was rushed to a hospital, he was declared brought dead.

“We have arrested three men and are looking for one more person. They all are brothers-in-law of the deceased,” said senior Inspector Kailas Avhad of Vakola police.
