Du Preez: Premiership is up there with Super Rugby

2018-11-13 12:29

Cape Town - Sharks flyhalf Robert du Preez is looking forward to his stint with English club Sale Sharks.

The Springbok recently signed a three-month contract with Sale which will see him return to Durban in time for next year’s Super Rugby competition.

Du Preez told Sale’s official website that he’s adjusted well to his new surroundings: “It was an easy transition, obviously it’s really cold! I’ve just come out of the summer in South Africa and moved to the winter here. But the guys have been really good with me, Jono Ross especially, he messaged me two weeks before I got here so it’s been an easy transition.”

When probed on why he opted for the short-term move, Du Preez responded: “We go into pre-season back at Sharks in Durban so I’m only here for three months... so my biggest thing is to learn different ways of playing and hopefully take that back to Durban and apply it. I want to serve this team to the best of my ability and soak up everything while I’m here.”

He added that he had high regard for the quality of the English Premiership.

“The Premiership is one of the best leagues in the world, I think it’s up there with Super Rugby if not better so it’d be good to test myself against the best players and hopefully it brings out the best in me.”

Meanwhile, it was reported over the weekend that Du Preez’s brothers, twins Jean-Luc and Dan, will also enjoy short stints in England.

Netwerk24 reported that Jean-Luc is expected to join Robert at Sale, while Dan looks set to join Exeter Chiefs.
