Nagpur: A director of Kamptee-based Indian Olympiad School was on Monday booked for beating a 14-year-old student in front of the entire class a month ago. While the parents of the student claim that their son was humiliated and thrashed, the management claims he was only scolded.
Father of the Std XI student told TOI that even after a month after the incident his son is still suffering from trauma and ashamed to join school. “We had also asked the school to give us proof about his mischievous behaviour for which he was beaten up, but they failed to provide anything. I also asked them on October 21 to give a Transfer Certificate (TC) to my child but they refused,” he said.

School founder-director Sahil Khan said, “It is all a fabricated story. The student was only scolded since he was being extremely mischievous in school and even in the bus. The parents had only taken provisional admission in our school last year, and they haven’t cleared their dues. We are ready to give them TC, or even let the student continue in our school, but they haven’t submitted proper documents to us.”

After the alleged incident took, RTE Action Committee headed by activist Mohd Shahid Sharif investigated the matter and also recorded statements of students present at the spot. “After inquiring into the incident, we sent the document to National Commission for Protection of Children Rights (NCPCR), which also took cognisance and issued directions to register an FIR against the director.”

A case of criminal intimidation and voluntarily causing hurt under sections 323, 504 and 506 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against accused Umer alias Danish Khan. It is learnt Danish is Sahil’s son, and also teaches at the school.

Zonal DCP Harrsh Poddar said, “We have registered a case against the teacher after the parents approached us, but no arrest has been made. Further action will be taken after investigation.”

Sharif said, “In every police station a child welfare officer is necessary, however, every time we come across such cases no body is serious, and also not regular in this work. Even in this case, we had to approach NCPCR, collector and also DCP Poddar before a case was registered.”
