- Thousands of teenagers are planning to ditch traditional Schoolies locations
- School leavers usually descend on tourist hot spots to party with their friends
- About 6,000 youngsters are expected to skip usual Australian locations for Bali
Thousands of teenagers planning to ditch traditional Schoolies locations to celebrate in Bali are being warned they could get slapped with criminal convictions when they return home.
School leavers usually descend on tourist hot spots, such as the Gold Coast, to party with their friends to mark the end of final exams, but about 6,000 will be heading to Indonesia.
But police have issued a caution for young revellers to avoid bringing dangerous weapons back to Australia or risk criminal charges.

Authorities have issued a caution for revellers to avoid bringing dangerous weapons back to Australia with them
Knives, flick blades, hidden swords, tasers disguised as phones, knuckle dusters, throwing stars and lasers have been brought back to Australia by previous school leavers.
Hefty fines and in some cases criminal convictions can be issued for those caught.
Teenagers are attracted to Bali by its free nightclubs and cheap drinks.
Schoolies were spotted partying hard in bars and on the streets of Kuta in November last year, enjoying the low prices and lax rules.
Alcohol flows freely in Bali and costs a fraction of what it does back home.
'For $35 I got at least 15 vodka and Cokes and five of these other things, I'm not sure,' one teenager told A Current Affair.
Drinks can contain poisons like methanol, or contains substances made in backyard labs, warned local security expert Richard Flax.
'The kids really don't know what they're drinking some of the time and that's the problem,' he said.
The mother of a young Australian who died in Bali four years ago said Schoolies should consider saying home.

As well as methanol, drinks have been known to contain mosquito repellent and arak - Balinese liquor.
Bali's harsh penalties for drug use are well-known, but schoolies seemed unaware of the dangers of another popular Balinese pastime - riding motorbikes.
Motorbikes and scooters are ubiquitous in Kuta, and Schoolies can be seen riding them recklessly from club to club.
Mr Flax warned Bali was not the place to learn how to ride a motorbike, and urged schoolies to be careful on mopeds.
