More Hate Crimes are being committed in the US than in previous years -- 2017 marks the third year in a row that hate crimes increased.????In fact -- they are up 17% from 2016 making it the largest single year jump since 2001 according to a new FBI report.??????Exactly seven thousand one hundred and seventy five hate crimes were reported by law enforcement officials in 2017.
In 2016, 6,121 were reported.
??????The report showed that the biggest motivators for hate crimes are racial and ethnic bias with more than 2,000 crimes targeting people of color.??????A New York Times report claims there has been a historic rise in white nationalism across the country.??????Also there was a 23% increase in religion based hate crimes and a 37% increase in anti-semitic hate crimes.????The deadliest attack against Jews in the U.S. occurred recently when 11 synagogue congregants were killed in Pittsburgh in October.
??????In a statement, Attorney General Matthew Whitaker said the report is a call to action saying, “we will heed that call.”??
