A bouncer heroically tried to save the life of beloved business owner Sisto Malaspina during Friday's horrific Bourke Street terrorist attack.

Eamon Davie was working at the Carlton Club in Melbourne's CBD on Friday afternoon when Hassan Khalif Shire Ali mounted his ute on a footpath on Bourke Street before it burst into flames.

Cafe owner Sisto Malaspina saw the explosion and ran to help Ali, who got out of the vehicle and stabbed him to death.

Mr Davie witnessed the attack and locked his colleagues inside the building, before sprinting to give Mr Malaspina CPR in a desperate attempt to save his life.

Mr Davie's sister has started a Go Fund Me page for him in an attempt to raise money as he takes time off work.

'My brother was there when it all unfolded... he doesn't think he's a hero,' Jackie wrote.

'He locked his work colleagues into their building and then called triple zero. He ran after the attacker to intervene but respected police instruction to stay back.

'He then turned his efforts to assisting in CPR on stabbing victim Sisto Malaspina, who unfortunately couldn't be saved.'

'He has rent and bills to pay and hopefully this will mean he doesn't have to return to work before he's ready.'

Jackie compared her brother's actions to a homeless man affectionately nicknamed 'Trolley Man' who also intervened during the horrific attack.

'I've set up this account in the hope that Melburnians will show their generosity, love and support towards him, as they have with ''Trolley Man'',' Jackie said.

More than $100,000 has been raised for 'Trolley Man', while Mr Davie's fundraiser has garnered almost $900.

Shire Ali, 30, stabbed three men before being shot in the chest by a police officer he threatened with a knife on Friday.

Sisto Malaspina, a 74-year-old Italian restaurateur, died at the scene. Another victim is recovering in Royal Melbourne Hospital while a third was released on Monday.

HOW THE BOURKE STREET TERROR ATTACK UNFOLDED

4:20pm Friday November 9: A blue ute mounted a footpath on Bourke Street in Melbourne's CBD. The car burst into flames.

- Cafe owner Sisto Malaspina, 74, saw the explosion and ran to the aid of the driver. The driver, now known as Hassan Khalif Shire Ali, exited the vehicle and stabbed Mr Malaspina to death.

- Ali then continued his rampage, attacking bystanders at random, including 58-year-old Rodney Patterson and a 24-year-old security guard. Footage shows the security guard was stabbed in the neck.

- The car fire was quickly put out by fire fighters and the bomb squad, who discovered gas cylinders in his car. The cylinders were declared useless shortly after.

- Two young officers were first on the scene, they engaged Ali. He lunged at them repeatedly with a knife.

- An unnamed hero joined the fray, affectionately nicknamed 'Trolley Man' after he attempted to stop the knifeman by repeatedly attacking him with a trolley.

- An officer shot Ali in the chest, he dropped to the ground and was arrested.

- He was taken to hospital in a critical condition.

- Police were made aware of other victims of the knife attack. Three men were taken to hospital. Mr Malaspina, who died, and the two other men, who are both in stable conditions.
