Self-employment plan for transgenders

more-in

The Social Justice Department is in the process of organising schemes and financial assistance modalities for transgenders to help them launch self-employment ventures, Minister for Health, Social Justice and Women and Child Development K.K. Shylaja said.

The State Women’s Development Corporation will provide loan up to ₹3 lakh to transgenders at subsidised interest rate for self- employment initiatives, she said while inaugurating an entrepreneurial training programme for transgenders here on Monday.

These initiatives were part of the efforts being taken by the government to bring the transgender community into the mainstream, Ms. Shylaja said.

Training

Through the Social Justice Department, 90 select transgenders were being given entrepreneurial training in three regions by the Centre for Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Development, an institution under Science and Technology Department.
