Major changes expected at CT City for 2019/2020 season

2018-11-13 14:00

Cape Town - Major changes are expected to be made to the playing squad at Cape Town City with the futures of Teko Modise, Roland Pusche and Ayanda Patosi for the 2019/2020 campaign uncertain.

Teko Modise

Modise, who will go down as a South African football legend and one of the Absa Premiership's best modern-day midfielders, is rumoured to be set to retire at the end of the current 2018/2019 campaign, Sport24 understands.

The 35-year-old, whose contract expires at the end of the campaign, has played a lesser role so far for this season the Citizens. Modise is understood to be favouring a return to Johannesburg after retiring.

At his recent book launch for 'The Curse of Teko Modise', the former Bafana Bafana international said that when he calls time on his career, he'd do it in the right way with a public announcement.

There is a slight chance Modise could continue his career elsewhere but this seems unlikely given the player's age.

Roland Putsche

Roland Putsche says he's undecided on whether he should recommit to Cape Town City for next season with his current contract also expiring at the end of the 2018/2019 season.

Sport24 can reveal, though, that the Belgian is set to depart CT City for the USA on a free transfer to an unknown club. The 27-year-old's partner lives in California, Los Angeles and is a huge motivating factor behind the midfielder's decision.

Putsche has been pictured on several occasions on holiday in the US, with head coach Benni McCarthy already sounding out and approaching potential replacements for next season.

"There is no stress‚" Putsche told SowetanLIVE. "There are other opportunities out there and let's see what happens.

"My rental agreement‚ for example‚ is also running just eight more months. But I am not thinking now about whether I should renew it or not.

"I am not from South Africa and I am not from Cape Town‚ but Cape Town is definitely my second home and John (club owner, Comitis) is the first person that I will talk to.

"It doesn't mean I'm leaving or anything ... but it also doesn't mean I'm staying."

Ayanda Patosi

Patosi, who joined CT City on a free transfer from Belgian club KSC Lokeren, has been in impressive form during his time at the club with his performances sparking interest from other clubs in Europe.

The Cape Town native has had some well-documented off-field issues with his weight, but despite this has still put in a few eye-catching displays this season, especially against Orlando Pirates.

The 26-year-old is the least likely of the three players to leave the Cape-based club as his departure would cause a major gulf in quality in midfield.
