Mumbai: A 30-year-old drug addict was arrested on Sunday night by the Shivaji Nagar police at Govandi for assaulting and threatening a grocery shopowner. According to police, the incident occurred on Saturday afternoon at 3 pm. The accused Akhtar Ali Shaikh (30) and his unidentified friend forcefully entered the grocery store at Baiganwadi, Govandi. Shaikh and his friend abused the store owner Ashok Gupta (24) in filthy language.
They pulled him by the collar and punched him in the face. Shaikh’s friend picked a calculator from the cash counter and hit Gupta near his right eye. They strew the grocery items on the floor. Shaikh rushed to the cash counter and robbed `2,000. Gupta fell down due to the blow and his right eye was bleeding. After the incident, Shaikh and his friend fled from the store. Gupta was rushed to Shatabdi Hospital at Govandi on Saturday.
As per the complaint, Shaikh had attempted to attack Gupta on October 10. He had damaged the shutter of the shop and vandalised the property inside the store. Deepak Pagare, senior inspector, Shivaji Nagar police said, “An FIR was filed and Shaikh was arrested on Sunday night.”
