Surat: A 25-year-old autorickshaw driver was killed by a man for demanding his money back from him at Palanpur Jakatnaka under the limits of Rander police station on Monday midnight.
Nitesh Thakur was hit with an iron pipe on his head by Navnit alias Rinku Sarod for pressing return of his Rs5,000 that he had lent him sometime ago.
“Thakur collapsed on ground after an iron rod was hit on his head by the accused, who was drunk. There was no other wound on the victim’s body. The victim was rushed to a hospital by local people but he died before treatment,” a police officer said.
Thakur was a native of Bihar. His elder brother Adam alias Astro was also murdered. Police said old enmity could have led to the murder and this was a part of their investigation. “At present, we have not found any eyewitness to the incident, though many autorickshaw drivers were present at the crime scene,” the police officer said.
