Tamilrockers: How does the website work? Who are uploading movies?

CHENNAI: Whenever a Tamil movie featuring a big star is released, a remotely operated website which uploads a crystal clear 'print' of the film gives the producers jitters. The website called Tamilrockers eats into their revenue.
Tamilrockers is providing its 'service' to those who don't want to spend Rs 120-200 or even exorbitant prices to watch the latest Tamil flick in a movie theatre on the first day.

Even before the release of the movie, the website gives out an open challenge -- as it happened in the case of Vijay-starrer “ Sarkar”-- threatening to upload it on the day of its release. Despite several cases and police action, it's a bull that seems to be beyond taming.

How does it work? Sources say that the website has contributing members from across the globe, mainly expatriate Tamils.

They upload the 'movie print' after recording it in local theatres. Every member gets paid for the work based on the number of times the print has been downloaded.

The website keeps changing its URL. So if a certain URL is taken down by enforcement agencies in a country, the website shifts to another one.
