Security guard killed by police, mother sues

Nats: Justice for Jemel Family and friends of Jemel Roberson gathered Monday, for a vigil demanding action after the 26-year-old was shot and killed by a police officer while working as a security guard at a suburban Chicago bar.

His family has filed a lawsuit seeking more than one million dollars, alleging the officer used excessive force.

SOUNDBITE: CANDACE OUSLEY, FAMILY FRIEND, SAYING: "The officer that shot him, we still don't know his name.

They're trying to keep that from us, so release his name please.

That's what I want y'all to do, release his name and he needs to have consequences." Witnesses say it all began early Sunday morning when a fight broke out and someone started shooting at Manny's Blue Room Bar, where Roberson worked as a security guard.

Roberson was armed and had tackled the suspect when police arrived.

SOUNDBITE: UNIDENTIFIED WITNESS, SAYING: "I just saw the officer like come out of nowhere, not really nowhere but out of the side door.

He just shot the security guard.

It's like he didn't give him a chance to identify himself.

It's like where's the proper protocol?

Like, I think these officers are undertrained.

They're scared." Roberson was pronounced dead at the hospital.

He suffered multiple gunshot wounds.

The shooting is under investigation by the State Police Public Integrity Task Force.

The officer involved in the shooting has been placed on paid administrative leave.
