Ganga water resumes, but supply not enough

NOIDA: Supply of Ganga water resumed after almost a month on Monday, but residents of several sectors complained of insufficient supply and untreated water. The sectors that complained of erratic supply included 11, 12, 19, 20, 27 and others. They said they had been getting water from bore-wells, which is hard and unfit for drinking unless treated.

“We have not been getting quality or sufficient drinking water for many days, except briefly during Diwali. For the last couple of days, supply of water has again come down. It is not sufficient to fulfil all household chores. The situation is same in Sector 27 as the supply line is same for all sectors,” said RC Gupta, the RWA general secretary in Sector 19. “Supply of water is very thin. We have been getting water only for 45 minutes for the last couple of days. The situation was same before Diwali. We have been facing constant shortage of water supply for over a week now,” said Puneet Shukla, a resident of Sector 12.

Similar complaints of insufficient supply and hard water came from residents of sectors 11, 20 and others. While SC Arora, deputy general manager of the jal board at Noida Authority, said supply of Ganga water would be normal from Monday evening, Samakant Srivastava, general manager (civil), agreed that the supply was erratic. “Supply of Ganga water may vary across sectors and it may take a couple of days for the supply to become completely normal everywhere,” said Srivastava.

Until then, residents will have to make do with bore-well water, which is hard and not fit for drinking directly.
