Some were outraged at Ms Smart's tweet, claiming it is 'never too early' to get into the Christmas spirit.
'Not early at all. My decorations are going up this weekend,' said one Twitter user.
'Just put mine up today! Season goes by too fast. It makes me happy,' another commented.
However, others agreed with Ms Smart that it was far too early to be dusting off the tinsel and hanging up the ivy.
'Mine goes up the week before Christmas, and comes down on Twelfth Night,' one Twitter user posted.

Another said: 'Agreed! In Canada, most of us wait until after Remembrance Day for any kind of decorations.'
Experts told the Daily Mail that playing Christmas music too early can actually have a negative impact on people's health.
The experts explained that overloading on Christmas-themed melodies can have in impact on our mental wellbeing because it reminds us of the financial and emotional stress of a season that is meant to be joyful but can be fraught with pressure.
