Top leaders of both the BJP and Congress are working overtime to cajole their rebel candidates to leave the poll fray. The candidates’ upset over being ignored had decided to fight the polls as Independent candidates. This, political leaders feel might jeopardise the poll equation.
In Constituency-3: BJP leaders were successful in convincing corporator Jagdish Dhaneria to support candidate Akash Vijayvargiya. Another Independent candidate Lalit Porwal refused to leave the fray. BJP leaders Gopi Neema and BJP’s Sambhagiya Sangthan Mantri Jagdish Devda tried to convince Porwal to leave the elections and support party candidate Akash Vijayvargiya. Porwal said he supported BJP’s principles and is fighting against the dynasty politics of giving ticket to family members.
In assembly constituency-1: Congress’ rebel candidate’s situation is still complicated. Senior party leader, Mahesh Joshi, tried to convince Kamlesh Khandelwal to withdraw from the elections and support party candidate Sanjay Shukla. Khandelwal disagreed and conducted meetings with his supporters. Another rebel candidate from Congress, Preeti Agnihotri conducted a rally supporting women empowerment in constituency-1. About 800 women participated in the rally showing their support to the Independent candidate.
Former CM Digvijay Singh and Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia are planning to meet Kamlesh Khandelwal and Preeti Agnihotri on Monday to convince them to support party candidate Sanjay Shukla during the elections. Other constituency areas are mostly clean without any rebel candidates. Mostly BJP and Congress will face one-to-one contest in these constituencies.
