TNN | Nov 13, 2018, 03:06 ISTNEW DELHI: The government on Monday approved the process of constitution of new boards of governors for IIMs as per the IIM Act 2017.
"The process of constitution of boards for IIMs, which have been given full powers to run the institutions, is a major development which signals complete autonomy of quality institutions in higher education and will ensure quality expansion of higher education," HRD minister Prakash Javadekar said after approving the process.
The IIM Act for the first time provided comprehensive autonomy to the institutions. In accordance with the Act, the government has decided to immediately withdraw its nominees. This will pave the way for complete control of the institutions by reputed academicians and alumni.
