Many injured as tiled roof collapses during a study camp in Kannur

Over 60 police personnel sustained injuries when a tiled roof structure at a beach resort at Kizhunna here collapsed on Monday.

The police personnel had assembled at the Queen Bay Resort around 10 a.m. to attend a study camp organised by the district committee of the Police Association. The injuries are not serious, the police said. Nearly 80 personnel from the district were participating in the camp.

Minor injuries

When contacted, Deputy Superintendent of Police P.P. Sadanandan said that all except three sustained only minor injuries. The injuries were mostly caused by tiles that fell from the roof, he said.

The injured were taken to various hospitals here.

The police said that the accident was caused by the decay of the old building. The district committee of the Police Association also came in for criticism from higher officers for selection of venue.

There was not even a proper road to the resort, they said adding that the camp could have been conducted in the halls of the Police Department here.
